i'm having bumper stickers made that say 'symantec screwed my PC!'. Any interest?

i was a norton cheerleader until last summer, when the lastest internet security twisted three of my computers inside out. Coupled with systemworks de-evolving... MS -is- continuing to upgrade windows to the point where a user does not need norton. AND THEY SHOULD!! the OS maker has a right to perfect his software so that their customer doens't need to buy additional software. I hope symantec crashes and burns.

Could be that Symantec is inwardly conceding defeat in its suit against Microsoft ....http://www.itwire.com.au/content/view/4499/53/....in that the Norton 360 suite being developed for XP also includes provision/development for the upcoming VISTA. With that being so, Symantec cannot be too confident in preventing MS releasing Vista in its current configuration.

One Company that can't write software worth a damn that has a million bugs (Symantec) is suing ANOTHER company that can't write software worth a damn that has a million bugs. I say we all just sit here and watch for entertainment purposes...

The 'Win' in 'Wincustomize' stands for 'Windows'

Right on. Reality-check. Works for me. McAfee the better a/v program of the two for me, with AdAware/AdWatch running too. I figure I'm probably 60%-70% covered against pests. Would wish for a/v to be included in OS, but that's just wishing...maybe a nice toxic shell for the OS, now, thet would be o.k.

What....and have fun at others' expense? But then again, I'm gonna enjoy seeing Symantec go down in a screaming heap.

They've got 3 chances...Buckley's, none and f-all of winning against MS, bit off more than they can chew this time.

Not exactly in XP or Vista, but the proposed Windows Firewall update will be much improved...then there's 'One Care Live'...not included in the OS as such, but it's keeping your Windows/Security updates with the one vendor and less invasive than NIS/McAfee. Think I'll be going that way when it becomes available in Oz.

Symantec faces $1 billion tax demand

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Symantec Corp. (SYMC) said on Thursday it filed a petition with the U.S. Tax Court over an IRS demand that the security software maker pay $1.06 billion in back taxes and penalties related to its affiliate.

The Internal Revenue Service is seeking about $758 million in back taxes owed by Veritas Software Corp., which Symantec acquired in 2005, and $303 million in penalties, according to the petition filed on Monday.

"We believe we have done everything to cooperate with the IRS to resolve this issue in good faith and we will continue to make efforts to resolve our disputes on an acceptable basis," Symantec said in a statement.

"We do not agree with the IRS position and will work with the courts to seek a definitive resolution."

The company said the dispute is over the formula for calculating "transfer pricing," which determines how companies set prices, fees and cost-allocation arrangements between their operations in different jurisdictions.

The IRS said Veritas and its Irish subsidiary did not properly allocate their respective incomes, according to Symantec's petition.

Symantec shares were up 13 cents, or 0.85 percent, at $15.36 in midday trading on the Nasdaq. The news was first reported in the Wall Street Journal.

On June 9, Symantec said it had reached an agreement with the IRS to settle an outstanding tax claim for $36 million over the audit of its 2003 and 2004 fiscal years.

This is more proof that they not only screw us, they screw the Government as well.
